Why this one is two sheets

Two hundred numbers set ten to a row is twenty rows, and twenty rows will not fit on a single A4 sheet with the numerals still at fifteen point. So this chart is printed as two sheets rather than one, and the file carries both of them: 1 to 100 on the first, 101 to 200 on the second.

Each sheet is ten columns wide and ten rows deep, ruled with twenty-two lines, eleven down and eleven across, which is a hundred square’s frame exactly. Two of them together hold the 200 numerals. The break falls between 100 and 101, which is the end of a row, so nothing is cut in half and neither sheet begins partway through anything.

The columns run on across the break

Because both sheets are ten cells wide, the chart behaves as one grid that happens to be printed in two pieces. A step of one cell to the right adds one and a step of one cell down adds ten on either sheet, and the columns continue straight through the join. The left-hand column reads 1, 11, 21 and on to 91 on the first sheet, then 101, 111, 121 and on to 191 on the second, and every one of those numbers ends in 1. The right-hand column is the ten times table twice over, 10 to 100 and then 110 to 200. Lay the second sheet directly below the first and you have the twenty-row chart the range describes.

The two sheets do not look alike, though, and the reason is the length of the numerals rather than the ruling. The first sheet is single and double digits throughout, with one exception: 100, alone in its bottom right corner, is the only three-digit numeral on it. The second sheet is three digits in every one of its hundred cells, 101 through 200, without exception.

So the pair shows the same hundred square shape twice with two different weights of numeral in it, and the point at which the numbers grew a digit sits in the corner of the first sheet, immediately above where the second one starts.
