What this table holds

The same grid as the printed chart and the same ruling. Twelve rows, twelve columns, 144 cells, 28 ruled lines, one sheet of A4. What it does not hold is the products. Of the 168 numerals the printed chart carries, 24 survive here: twelve across the header strip at the top, twelve down the header strip at the side. The 144 cells between them are empty.

The geometry is not adjusted to suit the emptiness. The cells are the size they are on the printed sheet, because the press rules the same 28 lines at the same spacing and reserves the room a fifteen point numeral needs whether or not it ends up printing one.

Taking it

PDF, PNG or SVG, as with any sheet here. The range is yours to change, and a blank chart to twenty or to thirty is the same object with more rows and smaller cells; so are the paper and whether the sheet stands upright or lies landscape. Turn the blank setting off and the products come back.

Only the answers are missing

A blank multiplication chart is not an empty box ruled into squares, and the distinction matters when you are looking at two files and deciding which one you have. Both headers are printed here. Every cell therefore already has an address: the row it sits in and the column it sits under name the two numbers, and the cell is the place their product goes. Nothing about which cell is which has been taken away.

So the whole difference between this sheet and the printed one is 144 numerals, and nothing else at all. The lines are the same lines, 28 of them. The margins are the same margins. The header strips carry the same numbers in the same order, and they are set at the same fifteen point.

One more thing follows from the symmetry of the grid, and it is easy to miss on an empty sheet: the 144 answers that are absent are not 144 different numbers. There are 59 distinct values among them, because the two halves either side of the diagonal hold the same products in mirrored positions. The sheet has 144 boxes on it and rather fewer facts in it than that.
